Several lawsuits against a Pittsburgh hospital over claims it failed to properly report the activities of a lab technician whose conduct sparked a multistate hepatitis C outbreak have been reinstated.

A divided three-judge panel of the Pennsylvania Superior Court ruled Thursday to reinstate four civil suits against UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside and Maxim Healthcare Services, the staffing agency that placed the tech at the hospital. The suits were filed by patients who were infected while being in a Kansas hospital.
