As a young lawyer, I hear about old-fashioned courtesies between lawyers and judges. What are they and where would I find them?
As any reader of this article knows, I always emphasize that practicing law and being a lawyer is a profession, not a business. Though one has a business in running a law office and making a living practicing law, the emphasis is always on the professional side. While the goal of business is to maximize one’s profit, the goal of being a lawyer is to help people and to ensure the fairness of the court systems. Law is a service business where helping is the goal, not maximizing profits.
