The approach taken by CBS Broadcasting Inc. in questioning the integrity of the First Judicial District’s handling of a lawsuit brought by the station’s former news anchor Alycia Lane was an exceedingly rare and aggressive move, legal observers said.

CBS discontinued on July 29 its King’s Bench petition asking the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to review the transfer of the case to a new Philadelphia judge, following Judge Mark I. Bernstein’s opinion last week explaining the move was tied to his impending retirement.
