One court employee and one sheriff’s deputy were injured after two elevators primarily used by judges malfunctioned and fell in the Criminal Justice Center on Thursday morning.

According to Philadelphia Police Captain John Ryan, speaking at the scene, a “mechanical malfunction” occurred that affected two private elevators. He said the sheriff’s deputy suffered serious, but ­non-life-threatening injuries, while the injuries to the court employee were minor.
