A Lancaster County jury has handed up an $8.5 million verdict in a medical ­malpractice case for an 8-year-old boy who developed severe neurological ­defects after an incident at a pediatric care facility.

A jury voted 10-2 in Yanak v. Cambridge Pediatrics Lancaster on Aug. 5 in Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas Judge Margaret C. Miller’s courtroom. The verdict included $100,000 in past noneconomic damages, $310,000 in future noneconomic damages, and $8 million in future medical expenses spread over the next 44 years, as well as $60,346 in past medical expenses.
