Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Merrill Robertson Jr. has more to tackle than running backs and wide receivers these days: the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has accused the ex-football player of running an investment scam that took in more than $10 million.
On Wednesday afternoon, the SEC filed civil charges against Robertson, 36, of Chesterfield, Virginia, and his business partner, alleging they defrauded elderly investors, including his former coaches at the University of Virginia, by pocketing $6 million of the $10 million they told investors would put toward business ventures like restaurants, real estate and alternative energy.
