More than a year after the derailment of an Amtrak train in Philadelphia left eight dead and hundreds injured, plaintiffs lawyers and Amtrak continue to pursue a comprehensive settlement that would compensate victims within the statutory damages limit of $295 million.

A few plaintiffs have already settled individual claims. But Thomas R. Kline of Kline & Specter, who chairs the plaintiffs management committee for multidistrict litigation stemming from the May 2015 derailment, said the settlements resolved “less significant” claims and haven’t broken the $100,000 mark.
