A federal judge has allowed an animal welfare expert to testify for the country’s major egg producers, who grocery stores and restaurants have alleged schemed to fix the prices of eggs.
U.S. District Judge Gene E.K. Pratter of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ruled in In re Processed Egg Products Antitrust Litigation that Dr. Michael Darre, who teaches animal and poultry science at the University of Connecticut, is qualified to testify in the litigation. The ruling, made public Wednesday, denied the plaintiffs’ challenge to Darre over his qualifications, the reliability of his methods, and the relevancy of his testimony.
