The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General has paid more than $1.03 million in outside legal fees to investigate the exchange of inappropriate and offensive emails on government servers and to defend a series of civil lawsuits.

The office has spent $647,490 on outside counsel for lawsuits alleging various forms of retaliation by former Attorney General Kathleen Kane and former chief of staff Jonathan Duecker, according to a review of invoices approved by the office. The most recent invoice available through a public-records request was submitted July 13.
