Montgomery County prosecutors have disputed appellate arguments by Patrick Reese, a former aide to Kathleen Kane, instead saying he was rightly convicted of indirect criminal contempt, and that the judge who oversaw the case was not required to recuse.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office filed its brief Sept. 23 in the Superior Court appeal of Reese, an ex-special agent in the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and a close confidant of Kane. Reese was found guilty in December of violating a protective order issued by Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas Judge William R. Carpenter during the grand jury investigation that eventually led to criminal charges against Kane. Kane resigned as attorney general last month after she was found guilty of obstructing administration of law, perjury and related charges.
