After a ruling in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court last week sent an unfriendly message to the energy industry, energy law practices in the state will be tasked with explaining Pennsylvania’s ever-changing legal requirements for the industry, and challenging the new local rules that will likely take shape.

In Robinson Township v. Commonwealth, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court struck down several sections of Act 13, the state’s oil and gas law, including provisions that allowed gas companies to employ eminent domain, exempted private water sources from notification after a spill and prevented doctors from disclosing information about their patients’ chemical exposures.
