A legal malpractice suit against Reed Smith over a $20.5 million settlement has been stayed while a federal appeals court considers whether a related case against an insurer was properly decided.

In Batoff v. Widin, Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Lisa M. Rau issued a stay, effective Nov. 9, pending a decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Charbonneau v. Chartis Property Casualty.
