I have discovered one of my employees has taken money from my escrow account. What steps should I take and what kind of problem am I in?

The attorney disciplinary system is based on trust. There is an implied agreement that an attorney will comply with the Rules of Professional Conduct and there is an agreement that one will report lawyers whose misconduct falls far below the Rules of Professional Conduct to the point it reflects on their fitness, honesty or trustworthiness. There is also an implied agreement that if the lawyer discovers misconduct within his or her office, that the lawyer will self-report. One of the biggest mistakes is not to report it and not to take corrective action.
