The judge overseeing the appeal of convicted serial child molester Jerry Sandusky has recused himself from the case, citing “misleading” arguments about the judge’s involvement in Sandusky’s decision to waive his preliminary hearing.
Judge John Cleland issued a strongly-worded opinion and order Nov. 18 saying that, although the move “virtually invites the evils of ‘judge shopping,’” he had to recuse from the case because of claims by the defense that he acted unethically with regard to the waiver of Sandusky’s preliminary hearing.
