Former U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, D-Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday, one of the longest sentences ever imposed on a member of Congress in a corruption case.

In addition to a term of three years’ supervised release, U.S. District Judge Harvey Bartle III of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania also ordered Fattah to pay $614,000 in restitution to the government agencies he defrauded in order to get himself out of campaign debt. The amount is to be split among Fattah and his four convicted co-defendants. He is to surrender to authorities on Jan. 25.
