A federal judge has denied former Congressman Chaka Fattah’s request to remain free while he appeals his conviction on corruption charges.

In a ruling Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Harvey Bartle III of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania held that Fattah, 60, would have to start his 10-year prison sentence on Jan. 25 while the appeals process plays out. Fattah was sentenced Dec. 12 after being found guilty in June of racketeering, bribery and related charges.
