For the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, 2016 was a year of significant administrative changes on the civil side, challenges on the criminal justice side, and of course, big verdicts.

The year began with the Supreme Court appointing Judge Jacqueline F. Allen as the new administrative judge of the First Judicial District, which is the top administrative position overseeing Philadelphia’s trial courts. Allen, who has been on the bench for more than 20 years and previously served as a team leader supervising the court’s major jury trial civil inventory, took over the administrative judge role from Justice Kevin M. Dougherty, who was elected to the Supreme Court in 2015.
