A network of Philadelphia lawyers moved quickly Jan. 28 when immigrants were detained at the Philadelphia International Airport, and they’re readying for a prolonged fight ahead against the executive order blocking individuals from certain countries from entering the United States.

Lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania; Philadelphia firms Langer, Grogan & Diver and Kairys, Rudovsky, Messing & Feinberg; HIAS Pennsylvania; and Villanova University School of Law became involved immediately Jan. 28 when news spread that refugees and travelers from seven predominantly Muslim countries were being detained at U.S. airports. Law firms Landau, Hess, Simon & Choi and Green and Spiegel have also helped with court papers, according to Mary Catherine Roper, deputy legal director of the ACLU of Pennsylvania.
