After a five-day trial, state Sen. Lawrence Farnese and Philadelphia Democratic committeewoman Ellen Chapman were acquitted in federal court Wednesday of all charges in their bribery case.

Farnese choked back tears as the jury foreman read the not guilty verdict on all 13 counts against him and co-defendant Chapman, who prosecutors argued he bribed with $6,000 to vote for him in 2011 as the leader of Philadelphia’s 8th Ward.
