Philadelphia District Attorney R. Seth Williams has announced he will not be seeking re-election, citing a persistent scandal over thousands of dollars in gifts he received and failed to properly disclose.

Williams made the announcement that he will not seek a third term of office Feb. 10. In the approximately 15-minute speech, Williams touted his work in making Philadelphia “smart on crime,” but said news over his failure to disclose more than $160,000 in gifts and reports that the FBI and IRS have been examining his personal and political finances had “cast a shadow over” the office.
