A Catholic college’s expulsion of a student can be reviewed by the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Commonwealth Court has ruled in an issue of first impression.

A unanimous three-judge panel ruled April 7 in Chestnut Hill College v. Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission that the commission can review Allan-Michael Meads’ racial discrimination complaint because the college is a public accommodation that falls within the commission’s jurisdiction, rather than a private institution based on its religious nature.
