A couple of years ago, I transitioned from full-time journalism to handling strategic communications for the Women’s Law Project.
After years of telling stories that, hopefully, raised awareness about what people experience in the wake of acute traumatic events like rape, or what it takes to survive and thrive when pinned between poverty and racism, I grew tired of drawing from what seemed like a bottomless well. I wanted to do more than tell stories. I wanted to work more directly toward solutions, to trace these stories up the chain to find, and help close, the policy gaps that enable systemic oppression. There are an endless number of stories to tell about people affected by systemic oppression, but I want to help the well run dry.
