The U.S. Courts are preparing to open a new version of their online document filing service, known as Case Management/Electronic Case Files, beginning in spring 2013.

The initial CM/ECF system began in 1996. Courts gradually implemented it, leading to user confusion as each court required different login information, spokeswoman Karen Redmond observed. That will be addressed in the new approach by giving users a single login for all courts nationwide, she said.
