In the courtroom, James E. Beasley and Sam Klein were fierce adversaries in several high profile First Amendment cases. Out of the courtroom, the two men never socialized.

But when Klein died suddenly on March 25, Beasley was deeply affected by the loss and the best way he felt he could pay tribute was by setting up a $100,000 memorial scholarship at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law for future First Amendment lawyers.
