Local tax lawyers were buzzing yesterday about the indictment of one of their peers, Wolf Block partner Robert Jacobs, who, along with a client, was charged with trying to defraud the IRS.

“Every tax lawyer I know, and not just in Philadelphia, is talking about this today,” a senior tax partner at a local firm said. “Everyone’s aware of the case, and it has got people thinking because, as it was described in the indictment, it wasn’t a blatant sham. It was based on a gray area of the law where being aggressive for a client ends and being fraudulent begins.”
