Historically, when the economy turns downward and layoffs increase, the number of new franchisees also increases. As the ranks of new franchisees swell, some business issues should be considered in the counseling of a prospective franchisee.
Is your client franchisee material? A successful franchisee is one who follows the roadmap developed by the franchisor. The franchisor represents that it has a successful format for delivering a product or service to the public, which can presumably be emulated by others without much prior experience in the specific industry.
