The purchase of a franchise has become an increasingly popular investment vehicle, particularly in light of the recent trend of corporate downsizing.

This trend has resulted in a thinning of the ranks of middle management of many companies and a concomitant increase in opportunities for both franchisors and franchisees. Because most persons affected by downsizing are in their 40s and 50s, retirement is not an option as most of such persons need to work for 10 to 15 years longer in order to amass the funds needed to retire.
