SAN FRANCISCO — Cooley represented late-stage venture-capital firm Institutional Venture Partners in raising $1.4 billion for its latest fund. It is the largest fund IVP has ever raised and the second-largest fund announced this year in the United States, behind the $2.8 billion fund raised by New Enterprise Associates earlier this month.

San Francisco-based partner Ian O'Donnell led for the Cooley team, which included Palo Alto-based partner Craig Dauchy and support from associates David Presser and Hongbo (Robert) Bao. Dauchy said the past two years saw a boom in venture capital funding.

“It's just been remarkable for fund formation and obviously you can see it in the stats from last year,” Dauchy said. In 2014, venture-capital firms raised almost $33 billion, roughly double the $16.7 billion raised the year prior.
