Quartet of firms land roles in Avago-Broadcom tie-up

Singapore-based Avago Technologies tapped Latham & Watkins to provide counsel on its $37 billion acquisition of Irvine, California-based Broadcom Corp. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom advised Broadcom. The combination of the two chipmakers, which specialize in semiconductors for use by cable television providers, is expected to enable competition with the likes of Intel and Qualcomm, according to The Wall Street Journal. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2016.

Davis, Polk & Wardwell advised Broadcom's board of directors, while founder and majority stock owner Henry Nicholas III turned to Morrison & Foerster.
