SAN FRANCISCO — Latham & Watkins and Covington & Burling got the call on a deal that furthers consolidation in the pharmaceutical industry. Westlake Village-based Kythera Biopharmaceuticals Inc., which develops cosmetic drugs, agreed to be acquired by Allergan PLC for $2.1 billion. Latham & Watkins represented Kythera in the deal and Covington & Burling represented Allergan.

The Latham team was led by Menlo Park-based partners Alan Mendelson, Mark Roeder and Josh Dubofsky, with the help of associates John Harrison, Deeptha Mathavan, Benjamin Liss, Owais Mahesri and Albert Yeh.

Mendelson called the assignment “bittersweet,” after having worked with Kythera for five years and knowing many of the board members and senior management.
