SAN FRANCISCO — Three former Fenwick & West lawyers launched patent litigation boutique Tyz Marton Schumann in San Francisco on Monday, hoping to lure clients with rates they say will be a fraction of Fenwick's.

Patent litigator Ryan Tyz has been practicing as a solo attorney since he left Fenwick eight months ago. Ryan Marton and David Schumann left Fenwick on Friday and joined the firm Monday. They said the firm would encourage the use of contingency fees or other success-based pricing models.

Tyz, a 10-year veteran of Fenwick, is currently defending mobile video bandwidth company PlayerLync LLC against an infringement suit by Multimedia Plus Inc. in the Southern District of New York. Clients also include Canadian software company The PEER Group Inc., plus more clients who are confidential, according to Tyz. The firm will take on trademark, copyright and commercial disputes in addition to patent litigation.
