A federal judge in San Jose has tapped three lawyers to represent plaintiffs in antitrust litigation against Qualcomm Inc. over its patent licensing policies.

U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh of the Northern District of California appointed Kalpana Srinivasan of Susman Godfrey and Steven Williams of Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy as co-lead plaintiffs counsel for the multidistrict litigation and named Steve Berman of Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro as an additional member of a three-firm plaintiffs steering committee.

In Monday's order announcing the leadership line-up, Koh wrote that Srinivasan was “excellent at trial” when handling a prior patent case before her and that Williams and Berman have “considerable experience litigating complex class actions, including antitrust class actions.” Koh's decision sidelines lawyers at Hausfeld LLP—who had asked to co-lead the case alongside lawyers from Cotchett—as well as a team at Renne Sloan Holtzman Sakai, which had applied to be liaison counsel.
