SAN FRANCISCO — A federal judge on Wednesday denied Uber's attempt to stay the trade secrets case brought against it by Google's driverless car division, keeping the litigation speeding toward an Oct. 2 trial date.

In a ruling from the bench, U.S. District Judge William Alsup of the Northern District of California said the law weighs against granting a stay of Waymo's case against Uber Technologies Inc., which alleges that Uber is using technology stolen by former Waymo engineer Anthony Levandowski.

“This is not blather. This is serious, and Waymo is entitled to its day in court,” Alsup said.
