The San Francisco-based firm, which has a Napa Valley office in St. Helena, has hired a new estate planning partner from a large firm in Texas and a real estate and land use lawyer from the District Attorney's Office of Sonoma County.

Farella Braun & Martel has grown its team by two in Napa Valley.
William Rasmussen is headed to the San Francisco-based firm's wine industry-focused office in St. Helena, California, as a wealth management partner, while Lee Philipson has joined the same outpost as of counsel in Farella Braun's real estate and land use practice.
Rasmussen, who was previously a partner at Porter Hedges in Houston, specializes in estate planning issues and helping clients transition family-owned businesses from one generation to the next. He said the latter skill set is in high demand among wineries. Rasmussen has roots in California—he met his wife at Berkeley before moving to the Lone Star State to attend law school at the University of Texas.
