C.A. 3rd;
C080391

The Third Appellate District reversed a judgment with directions. In the published portion of its opinion, the court held that a lifetime sex offender registration requirement for a juvenile offender did not constitute cruel and unusual punishment.

Following 12-year old J.C.'s commission of forcible sodomy on a five-year old, followed by repeated probation violations, the juvenile court committed J.C. to the Division of Juvenile Facilities (DJF). This commitment required lifetime registration as a sex offender under Penal Code §290.008.
