The First Appellate District reversed a judgment. The court held that the Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act's (MICRA) one-year statute of limitations for professional negligence did not apply to a visitor's trip-and-fall in a clinic hallway.

Claudia Johnson visited a clinic operated by Open Doors Community Health Centers for a consultation with a nurse-practitioner. Prior to the consultation, she was weighed on a scale in the hallway outside the consultation room. While she was in the consultation room, the scale was allegedly moved. When she exited the room following her consultation, she tripped over the scale and fell. She sued Open Doors for her injuries.
