Maureen Baird and Dr. Hiram Licon have associated with The Law Offices of Alan Ellis as consultants. Baird previously was the Federal Bureau of Prisons warden and Licon most recently was the Bureau of Prisons's medical designator.
Greenberg Traurig has welcomed Ellen Berkowitz and Brady McShane to the firm's land use, land development and real estate practices as shareholders. Berkowitz and McShane both came most recently from Akerman. Berkowitz is based in Los Angeles and McShane will split time between the Los Angeles and Denver offices.
Prashanth Chennakesavan and Andrea Contreras join LTL Attorneys' Los Angeles office as associates. Chennakesavan previously was an associate at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, and will focus on complex commercial litigation. Contreras will focus on employment and class action matters. She previously was a litigation associate at Morrison & Foerster.
Richard Giller has joined Reed Smith as a partner in their insurance recovery group. Giller is based in Los Angeles and joins from Polsinelli, where he was a principal and focused on insurance disputes and insurance recovery.
Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp welcomes former partner Yakub Hazzard back to the firm's Los Angeles office. Hazzard most recently worked at NBCUniversal as a senior legal executive and was part of Mitchell Silberberg's entertainment litigation practice in the 1990s.
Laura Maechtlen has been appointed chair of Seyfarth Shaw's labor and employment department. She previously served as vice chair of the department and is based in the firm's San Francisco office.
Schiff Hardin's products liability and mass torts group has welcomed Steven Swaney as a partner in the San Francisco office. Swaney most recently was a partner at Squire Patton Boggs.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
