Nutanix Announces Tyler Wall as New Chief Legal Officer

Cloud computing company Nutanix Inc. announced Tyler Wall as its new chief legal officer on Tuesday afternoon. Wall will bring a combination of business and legal expertise onto the company's San Jose-based team.
Wall was previously the general counsel and senior vice president of Red Book Connect, now called HotSchedules, where his LinkedIn profile states he worked for nearly four years.
Before that, he held a number of positions, including vice president, general counsel, and chief compliance officer at tech company Brocade. Wall not only has a law degree, but an MBA as well from Santa Clara University, where he also graduated from its law school.
Wall says his unique background will help him approach legal issues at Nutanix with more creativity, and with an eye to business and finance, as well as the law.
“I've always been a very business-oriented legal partner to CEOs and executives, who tend to be very financially driven in their decision and thought processes,” Wall told The Recorder in an interview. “My previous business experience and MBA help give me a better understanding of their decision and thought-making process and the financial implications of those decisions while I provide legal guidance for the company.”
Walls said Nutanix caught his eye as it is a quickly growing company with plenty of exciting challenges and learning opportunities. The startup, which creates and sells hyper-converged infrastructure appliances and software storage, is valued at over $1 billion and has offices worldwide.
“Nutanix is a high-growth software company that's disrupting a large market,” Wall said. “There are few opportunities available at companies at this growth rate and scale, so I was excited for the chance to join.”
He'll be replacing Eric Whittaker, who left Nutanix earlier this year for a general counsel position at life science company 10X Genomics. Whittaker became Nutanix's first GC in 2014.
Dheeraj Pandey, the chairman, founder, and CEO of Nutanix, said in a press release that he is excited to welcome Wall to the team.
“Tyler is one of the rare legal professionals who has had a true strategic voice in pioneering change,” he said. “As we diversify our go-to-market strategy from appliances to software to cloud services, we will need a leader like him to oversee trust, transparency and compliance with our customers, employees, partners, regulators and investors.”
