Partner promotions and new hires at California law firms.

Boutique litigation firm Kerr & Wagstaffe promoted Frank Busch to partner. Busch focuses his practice on complex trial and appellate litigation and is based in San Francisco.
Crosbie Gliner Schiffman Southard & Swanson brought on three attorneys in California: partners David Alvarado and Eoin Gubbins in Los Angeles and special counsel Joseph von Meier in San Diego. The firm also relocated its Brentwood office to the Tower in Westwood.
Steven Di Saia joins Buchalter as shareholder in its Los Angeles office. Di Saia will be part of the litigation and products liability practice group and advises clients on complex tort litigation.
Construction industry law firm Finch, Thornton & Baird brought on five attorneys to its San Diego office: Rishi Bhatt, Patrick McManus, James Astuno Jr., Jennifer Griffin and Scott Leimgruber.
Fish & Richardson promoted four attorneys to principal: Joanna Fuller in San Diego, Neil Warren, Michael Portnov and Michael Shepherd in Silicon Valley. Fuller and Warren are part of the litigation group, and Portnov and Shepherd are part of the patent group.
S.V. Stuart Johnson has joined Kesselman Brantly Stockinger as a partner. Johnson will head the commercial real estate and partnership matters practice group. Previously, Johnson was head of litigation at Carico Johnson Toomey. Kesselman Brantly also hired associate Ryan Davis and legal assistant Brittney Igor.
Baker McKenzie promoted Bianca Lansdown to counsel in its San Francisco office. Lansdown's practice focuses on compliance in global executive and employee incentive programs.
Littler Mendelson brought on Anne LaWer as a shareholder in the firm's San Jose office. LaWer's practice focuses on employee benefits compliance matters and most recently was at GCA Law Partners.
Jackson Lewis brought on employment lawyer Theresa Mak as a principal in its San Francisco office. Most recently, Mak was a senior attorney at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.
The Orange County Bar Association awarded the Franklin G. West Award to Julie McCoy at its 2018 Judges' Night & Annual Meeting. The award was established in 1971 to honor Judge Franklin G. West. McCoy previously served as the association's president in 2006, and also co-founded the Orange County Bar Association's Masters Division for attorneys with more than 25 years' experience practicing law. McCoy has been a solo practitioner since 2003.
Jessica Tien joined DLA Piper as a principal economist in its Silicon Valley office. Tien previously was a partner at Ernst & Young in San Francisco and focused on planning of implementation of pricing structures.
Silicon Legal Strategy hired Rebecca Tseng as an associate in its San Francisco office. Previously, Tseng was an associate at Cox, Castle & Nicholson and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.
Tyson & Mendes has promoted Tracey Angelopoulos to partner and Justin Evenson to team leader. Both attorneys focus their practices on general liability and commercial litigation and are based in San Diego.
Corporate and securities attorney Debra Vernon joined VLP Law Group as a partner in the corporate practice group. Vernon is based in the Bay Area and previously worked at DLA Piper and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

Amy O. Bruchs and Kurt F. Ellison of Michael Best & Friedrich have entered appearances for Epic Systems Corp. in a pending employment discrimination lawsuit. The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
