Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights 50th anniversary reception at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco
Nearly 800 people came together Friday night to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area. The event, held at the San Francisco Hyatt Regency, also celebrated the life and work of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. almost 50 years after the civil rights leader's assassination. Lawyers and judges from across the Bay Area attended to support the organization, which provides free legal assistance and representation to people from disenfranchised communities. Over the past 50 years, LCCR's legal victories have pushed for more integration in San Francisco's public schools, more opportunities for women and protections for immigrant youth. More than 1,000 local lawyers volunteer with the organization every year, providing pro bono services estimated to be worth $20 million. At Friday's event, LCCR awarded the Bay Area lawyers and firms, including those in the slideshow below, whose volunteer work went above and beyond.
