Samsung Hit With Half-Billion-Dollar Verdict in Latest Apple Patent Trial
A San Jose jury has awarded Apple Inc. $538 million in its latest retrial with Samsung over infringing smartphones.

The verdict—$533.3 million for infringement of three design patents and $5.3 million for two utility patents—represented a middle ground between the $1 billion Apple was seeking and the $28 million Samsung had targeted.
But it was actually more than the $399 million Apple was awarded for design patent infringement at its first trial six years ago. The verdict follows about three days of deliberations following a four-day damages retrial.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments.
