More than 500 students, faculty, staff and dignitaries attended the dedication and blessing of the 96,000-square-foot Howard and Alida Charney Hall of Law on Friday at Santa Clara University. In 2014, SCU received a $10 million donation, made in part by retired Cisco Systems senior vice president Howard Charney. The donation was the largest ever received by the Jesuit school. The new building brings together the school's existing law facilities, which were previously scattered over five separate buildings. The Charney Hall of Law was built on principles of how law will be taught in the future. Classrooms are modern and networked with teleconferencing screens. One classroom, called the "lawyers lab," features a hack-modeled space designed to foster quick, small collaborative groups. Additionally, the building was constructed near the business school to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration.
