Leader of Fenwick's 'privacy in M&A' team, Razmazma cites constant change as both the best part and biggest challenge in working in the tech sector.

Ana Razmazma, a senior associate at Fenwick & West, advised serial acquirer Cisco in its $1.2 billion acquisition of Broadsoft, a deal that offered up a host of integration challenges. Razmazma also leads Fenwick's “privacy in M&A” team, which advises on privacy issues regarding both U.S. and EU privacy law.
Name an important opportunity you got early in your career and what you did with it.
I had the opportunity to work with founders of startups as a junior corporate attorney, and I learned what are the issues that concern them most—equity, IP protection. I learned to address these concerns in a practical manner and also to look for them during due diligence.
What's the best piece of career advice anyone ever gave you?
You can be nice and still be assertive.
Name a lawyer whose work you admire and why?
Ralph Pais, because he comes up with creative solutions that benefit both sides on complex problems.
What's the best part about working in the tech sector?
Continued learning due to the constant innovation and change that defines the tech sector.
What's the biggest challenge?
Being comfortable with uncertainty due to the constant changes of technology.
What piece of advice do you give to lawyers considering a career in tech law?
Get to know the local companies and what they do before law school by reading news and securities filings.
What's one way technology has made your life easier?
The mobile revolution brought by the iPhone allows me to have access to immediate knowledge at all times.
One way it's made your life more difficult?
The mobile progress mentioned above also means that instantaneous responsiveness is expected.
No. 1 survival tip in a work crisis:
Breathe and tackle only one task at a time. Everything is temporary.
What's one way you've had to change your thinking toward practicing law to succeed with tech industry clients?
I have gone from giving academic-style answers involving long analyses to short, practical answers that get to the point and give a clear solution upfront.
What's one area of technology that you're most excited about and why?
Cryptocurrency because of the freedom it provides. It is new and unchartered territory with a lot of potential associated with blockchain technology, going above just currency.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson.
