New hires at law firms across the California legal market.

Maynard Cooper & Gale brought on Jamal Al-Haj as partner in the corporate group. His practice focuses on domestic and international mergers and acquisitions and other corporate law matters. Previously, Al-Haj was an associate at Morrison & Foerster. He will be based in the San Francisco office.
Baker Botts brought on Peter Huston as partner in the antitrust practice. He had served as assistant chief of the Department of Justice's antitrust division in San Francisco. He will be based in the firm's San Francisco office. The firm also promoted Matthew Avery to partner in the intellectual property practice. Avery's experience focuses on patent prosecution, counseling and diligence. He is based in the San Francisco office.
Rosen Bien Galvan & Grunfeld hired Hugo Cabrera as an associate. Previously, Cabrera was an associate at Greenberg Traurig. He will be based in San Francisco.
Marc Dworsky joined Reid Collins & Tsai after more than 25 years at Munger, Tolles & Olson. Dworsky will focus on high-stakes, contingent-fee plaintiffs litigation. His arrival will establish a Southern California location for the boutique firm.
Ellyn Garofalo joined Venable as partner in the commercial litigation practice. Garofalo has experience in civil matters involving health care, professional negligence, real estate, shareholder and partnership disputes. Previously, she was partner at DLA Piper. She will be based in the Los Angeles office.
Jones Day hired two new associates in its Los Angeles office. Brittney Kubisch previously clerked for Justice Clarence Thomas, and Eric Tung previously clerked for Justice Neil Gorsuch and Justice Antonin Scalia.
David Markman joined DLA Piper as partner in the media, sport and entertainment practice and intellectual property and technology practices. Markman will also co-chair the firm's entertainment transactions practice. Previously, he was partner at Greenberg Traurig. He will be based in Los Angeles.
Spaulding McCullough & Tansil hired Candice Raposo as attorney in Santa Rosa. Raposo focuses her practice on estate planning, trust administration, property transfers and taxes. Previously, she was an attorney at O'Brien, Watters & Davis.
Manatt, Phelps & Phillips brought on Lisa Suennen to become head of its digital and technology businesses and venture capital fund. Previously, Suennen was the managing partner at Venture Valkyrie and senior managing director at GE Ventures' health care venture fund. She will be based in San Francisco.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
