New hires, partner promotions, and real estate moves from across the California legal market.

Cooley will move its office in San Francisco to Three Embarcadero Center. Previously, the firm was located at 101 California St. The new space will provide 130,000 square feet across five floors in the building to 300 Cooley employees.
Andrew Crane joined labor and employment law firm Fisher &Phillips as an associate in the Irvine office. Crane's practice focuses on labor and employment litigation, including single-plaintiff employment discrimination. Previously, he was at CalOptima in Orange County.
Ellyn Garofalo joined Venable as a partner in the commercial litigation practice. She focuses her practice on criminal and regulatory work. Previously, she was at DLA Piper. She will be based in the Los Angeles office.
Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher promoted Michael Dore, Abbey Hudson and Daniela Stolman to partners in the Los Angeles office and Allison Kidd to partner in the San Francisco office. Dore focuses on complex commercial litigation matters in the litigation and white-collar practices. Hudson is part of the litigation and environmental and mass torts practices, and focuses on complex trial litigation. Stolman's practice advises companies and private equity firms; she is part of the corporate, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity practice. Kidd is in the real estate practice and works on commercial real estate transactions and land use and development matters.
Kyle Janecek joined Newmeyer & Dillion as a transactional associate. As part of the business transactions team, Janecek will support the corporate, real estate, and privacy and data security groups. He will be based in the Newport Beach office.
Jeffrey Kateman joined Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth as a shareholder in the corporate and mergers and acquisitions practice group. He focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions and representing private equity firms. Previously, Kateman was a partner at Sheppard Mullin. He will be based in the Santa Monica office.
Kenneth Kecskes joined K&L Gates as a partner in the real estate practice group. He advises clients on acquisitions, dispositions, leasing and other real estate transactions. He was formerly at Fox Rothschild, and will split his time between the San Francisco and Los Angeles offices.
Duane Morris named Meagen Leary co-chairwoman of the firm's business reorganization and financial restructuring practice group. Leary, based in San Francisco, will co-chair alongside James Holman of the Philadelphia office. They succeed Rudolph Di Massa, who will continue as a partner in the group.
Mayer Brown promoted Peter Wolf to partner and Evan Wooten to counsel. Wolf focuses his practice on merger and acquisition transactions and is part of the corporate and securities practice in the Northern California office. Wooten is in the litigation and dispute resolution practice in Los Angeles, and focuses on privacy and consumer class action defense.
Erin Price joined Fisher & Phillips as an associate. Price's experience in labor and employment litigation includes discrimination, civil rights, constitutional claims and wage-and-hour matters. Previously, she was at Porter Scott. She will be based in Sacramento.
Weil, Gotshal & Manges promoted Derek Walter to partner and Alex Purtill to counsel. Walter is a patent litigation attorney and Purtill is in the private equity and mergers and acquisitions practice. Both are based in Silicon Valley.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
