New hires and partner promotions at law firms across the California market.

Robert Bosslet was promoted to partner at Kasowitz Benson Torres. He represents clients in antitrust, securities, ERISA and contract disputes, and focuses on complex commercial litigation. Bosslet is based in Los Angeles.
Blank Rome brought on Terrence Everett as a partner in the corporate, mergers and acquisitions and securities group. He focuses his practice on corporate and finance transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and securities and real estate transactions. Everett will be based in the Los Angeles office.
Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass has promoted Daniel Gershwin to partner in the firm's real estate practice. He represents clients in complex local, state, and federal approval processes to develop projects.
Foley & Lardner promoted two attorneys in Los Angeles: Christopher Bolten in intellectual property and Anil Shankar in business law. Bolten is based in San Diego and Shankar in Los Angeles.
Sacks, Glazier, Franklin & Lodise promoted Ryan Houck to partner. Houck's practice focuses on trust, estate and conservatorship litigation. He is based in Los Angeles.
Morrison & Foerster promoted three attorneys to partner in California: Caitlin Blythe in the litigation department and securities litigation, enforcement and white-collar defense groups, Jim Krenn in the corporate department, and Joyce Liou in the intellectual property group and investigations and white-collar defense groups. Blythe and Liou are based in San Francisco and Krenn in San Diego.
Sima Namiri-Kalantari has been promoted to counsel at Crowell & Moring. Namiri-Kalantari is part of the firm's antitrust group. She is based in Los Angeles.
Reed Smith promoted two attorneys to partner and three attorneys to counsel in California. Seth Herring, who focuses on patent, trademark and copyright litigation, and Christine Morgan, who represents plaintiffs and defendants in design and utility patent litigation, were promoted to partner. Jonathan Detrixhe and Nina Borders in the intellectual property, technology and data group and Jennifer Fearnow in the complex litigation group were promoted to counsel. All attorneys are based in San Francisco except Borders, who is in Silicon Valley.
Locke Lord hired Juan Redin as senior counsel in the public finance practice group. Previously, he was a senior associate at Norton Rose Fulbright. Redin is based in Los Angeles.
Rosen Bien Galvan & Grunfeld promoted Van Swearingen to partner and Ben Bien-Kahn to senior counsel in January. Swearingen's practice focuses on complex civil litigation, employment law, white-collar criminal defense, trade secret issues, government enforcement actions and civil rights. Bien-Khan's practice focuses on complex civil litigation in state and federal courts. Both attorneys are based in San Francisco.
Rutan & Tucker promoted five attorneys to partner in January: Alan Fenstermacher in government and regulatory, Andrew Lamming in real estate, Ravi Mohan in intellectual property, Proud Usahacharoenporn in litigation and trial, and Kenneth Zielinski in the employment group. All five attorneys are based in Orange County.
DLA Piper brought on Tracy Shapiro as partner in the data protection, privacy and security group of the firm's intellectual property and technology practice. Shaprio has experience counseling technology clients on compliance with privacy laws and also counsels clients on Federal Trade Commission Endorsement Guidelines, advertising and marketing laws. Previously, she was of counsel at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. She will be based in the San Francisco office.
Farella Braun + Martel hired Katy Tang as a land use specialist in the real estate and land use department. Previously, Tang was on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors as the District Four Supervisor. She is based in San Francisco.
Greenberg Traurig brought on Charles Thompson as a shareholder in the firm's labor and employment practice. He focuses his practice on employment litigation. Previously, Thompson was managing partner of the San Francisco office at Polsinelli and will continue to be based in San Francisco.
Western States Petroleum Association brought on Shant Apekian as vice president of California Policy and Strategic Affairs. He will lead the association on public policy and legislative matters in the state in his new role. Previously, he was the vice president of public affairs for the California Apartment Association.
Joseph Wetzel joined Latham & Watkins as partner in the litigation and trial department and the intellectual property litigation practice. Previously, he was partner at King & Spalding. He will be based in the San Francisco office.
Adam Witt was promoted to partner at Finch, Thornton & Baird. Witt's practice focuses on the transactional needs of business owners and executives, contractors and developers, tenants and landlords and buyers and sellers of real estate. Witt is based in San Diego.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
