Greenberg Traurig Nabs Longtime Orrick L&E Partner in California
After over three decades at Orrick, Timothy Long made a move to Greenberg Traurig on Monday.

Greenberg Traurig continues its hiring spree in California, adding Timothy Long, a veteran labor and employment attorney from Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.
After spending over three decades at Orrick, Long made the move to Greenberg Traurig on Monday as a shareholder in the firm's labor and employment practice. He will split his time between Greenberg Traurig's Sacramento and Los Angeles offices.
“It's a great opportunity to do a lot of exciting things,” Long said. He represents both national and international clients on a range of complex labor and employment issues and said he was drawn to Greenberg Traurig's global platform and the opportunity to “utilize its full range of resources and services” for his clients.
Long's clients include financial institutions, health care-related entities, entertainment companies, airlines, retailers, high-tech companies and transportation and logistics companies, according to Greenberg Traurig's press releases.
At Greenberg Traurig, Long said he will continue to work on with those clients on employment matters, class actions, issues relating to wage-and-hour. Some of the high-profile cases he is currently handling include a suitable seating case filed against CVS Pharmacy over violation of a state wage rule, Kilby v. CVS Pharmacy and a wrongful termination lawsuit against an entertainment company, Steines v. Crown Media.
Throughout his career, Long has litigated dozens of traditional labor disputes. He also represents employers before state and federal administrative agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, and the U.S. Department of Labor.
In a statement welcoming Long to Greenberg Traurig, Chuck Birenbaum, chairman of Northern California and co-chair of the firm's labor-management relations group, said: “We are pleased to continue to grow our California L&E presence with the addition of Tim to Greenberg Traurig only months after landing another leading practitioner, Chuck Thompson.”
In January, Greenberg Traurig nabbed Charles Thompson, Polsinelli's San Francisco office managing partner, to join its labor and employment practice in California. With Long's addition, Greenberg Traurig now has 23 attorneys working on labor and employment matters in California. Firmwide, Greenberg Traurig has over 150 practitioners in its labor and employment group, the firm said.
Outside labor and employment, Greenberg Traurig also added renewable energy partner Jeffrey Chester from Morrison & Foerster in Los Angeles last week, and he became global head of Greenberg Traurig's energy project finance group.
But earlier this month, the firm also lost real estate partner Vivek Chavan, who left for DLA Piper in San Francisco. And in June, nine lawyers left Greenberg Traurig for Morrison & Foerster, starting a Latin America practice for the latter firm.
In a statement regarding Long's departure, a spokesperson for Orrick said, “We thank Tim for his contributions to our firm and wish him the best.”

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays.
