Calabasas, California-based Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services announced on Tuesday that one of its in-house attorneys has been promoted to the role of first vice president and general counsel.

In his new role, Tyler Theobald is responsible for overseeing the entire legal function of the company. He also is retaining his role as the company's compliance officer, according to his LinkedIn profile. He began the role in April, however, the company did not make a formal announcement until this week.

It is not clear who he replaced or where that person went. A spokesperson for the company did not respond to that question when asked in an email.

"I am incredibly fortunate to work with such a talented team. I look forward to the opportunity to help the firm achieve its objectives and be a key part of the tremendous value proposition for our clients and agents," Theobald said in an emailed statement to Corporate Counsel.

Theobald has worked at Marcus & Millichap since 2014 when he was hired as associate general counsel and compliance officer. Most recently, he worked as the firm's deputy general counsel and compliance officer. Before joining Marcus & Millichap, Theobald worked as an attorney at Paul, Plevin, Sullivan & Connaughton. He also has worked as an associate at Pettit Kohn Ingrassia & Lutz. He graduated from the University of San Diego Law School in 2007.

"As we continue to expand as a firm, our legal team is strategically positioned to protect our company shareholders and work on behalf of our nearly 2,000 investment sales and financing professionals," president and CEO, Hessam Nadji, said in the press release.

Marcus & Millichap specializes in commercial real estate and investment sales, financing research and advisory services. In 2018, the firm closed over 9,400 transactions with an approximate value of $46.4 billion.
