Attorney Derek Zaba joined Sidley Austin's mergers and acquisitions and private equity group as a partner. Based in the firm's Palo Alto office, Zaba will also co-lead Sidley Austin's shareholder activism practice. Zaba will counsel boards and C-suite executives of public companies. He joins from PJT Camberview Partners.
Miller Starr Regalia added former Ropers Majeski Kohn Bentley of counsel Angela J. Yu as a litigation associate. She joins the firm's Walnut Creek office and will handle complex business litigation cases in both federal and state courts.
Daniel Wheeler, a former partner and financial technology practice team leader at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, has been named general counsel of cryptocurrency lending and borrowing company Cred. He will be based in San Francisco. Wheeler has experience representing banks, fintech companies, credit unions and other financial institutions and was a member of the financial services client service group at Bryan Cave.
In-house attorney Tyler Theobald was promoted to first vice president and general counsel at Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services in Calabasas. Theobald has been with the company since 2014 and most recently held the titles of deputy general counsel and compliance officer. In his new role, he will oversee the company's entire legal function as well as continue to act as compliance officer.

The action, filed Sept. 24 in District of Columbia District Court by Jackson Walker on behalf of Pakistani American Public Affairs Committee, accuses the defendants of using a mark that's confusingly similar to the plaintiff's 'Pak-Pac' marks without authorization. Eleanor M. Lackman of Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp has entered an appearance for Canon, the Japanese camera maker, and the Brooklyn Nets in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The case, filed Sept. 16 in California Central District Court by T-Rex Law on behalf of technology company Phinge Corporation, pursues claims against the defendants for their ongoing use of the 'Netaverse' mark. The suit contends that the defendants' use of the mark in connection with a virtual reality platform will likely create consumer confusion. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Consuelo B. The suit, filed Aug. 12 in Washington Western District Court by Kampmeier & Knutsen on behalf of Communities for a Healthy Bay, seeks to declare that the defendant has violated the Clean Water Act by releasing stormwater discharges on Puget Sound and Commencement Bay.
