Loeb & Loeb has expanded its Nashville office with the addition of a six-attorney group from Dickinson Wright, led by the latter firm's entertainment law practice chair, Derek Crownover.

Crownover officially joined Loeb & Loeb on Tuesday as a partner in the firm's Nashville office. Joining with him from Dickinson Wright are senior counsel Cam Caldwell, Robert Kouchoukos and Noah McPike, and associates Nate Drake and Colleen Kelley.

"[Loeb & Loeb] has really been consistent in their belief in entrepreneurs and artists, and really taking the risk with them, and that's something I've done in my career [for] many years as well," Crownover said. "So, I think our abilities to understand that risk and to help our clients and keep those clients after taking the risk with them are pretty consistent."

Crownover said he has known Loeb & Loeb's attorneys for years. He said joining forces with the California-based firm will provide his group with a platform where they "wouldn't run out of runway."

"As our clients were growing up, Loeb had that platform and they had that runway that just allowed us for more bandwidth," he said.

Crownover and his team have served as "outsourced, yet in-house" counsel for publishing companies, producers, independent record labels, media and entertainment entrepreneurs and executives, as well as singers and songwriters.

The group's client roster includes Craig Wiseman and his Big Loud entities, Sam Hunt, Kane Brown, Luke Combs, the Estate of Otis Redding Jr., Jason Aldean, songwriters Hillary Lindsey, Ashley Gorley and Dallas Davidson, and the T.J. Martell Foundation.

"Nashville is metaphorically [the] Rome of the music publishing world," said Crownover, who has been practicing in the music capital since the early 1990s. And with current technology, he said, "with all the writers here in all the studios here, it's probably the best place in the world to create the lowest cost music at the highest quality."

Loeb & Loeb, which opened its Nashville office 25 years ago, has its own roster of famous clients, including Carrie Underwood, Vince Gill, Midland, the Estate of Johnny Cash and the Academy of Country Music. The firm lists 12 Nashville lawyers on its website.

"We've been committed to Nashville for a very long time. It's very integral to our overall picture of what we want to practice," said John Frankenheimer, partner and chair of Loeb & Loeb's music industry practice. "There's a tremendous amount of support in the community for people who are trying to break into the business. And it's very appealing. It's very healthy right now."

Frankenheimer added that country music's reach is continually expanding. "There are a few people down there that are responsible for that, and Derek was right at the top of the list," he said.

Dickinson Wright did not respond to a request for comment regarding the group's departure.
